Shauna Mackenzie, the face of, and impetus behind Best Kept Self and Studio for Image Professionals keeps life on an even keel by adhering to the adage – “Live the simple life.” She believes that, “… the more clutter (physical or mental) we have in our lives, the less energy we have to bring to the things that are truly important – friendships, prosperity, positivity, and love. To live simply is powerful.”
Shauna epitomizes confidence, determination, and the rare ability to perceive and embrace depth in the seemingly insignificant. She has evolved from the suddenly unemployed (when she lost her first job out of college), to a self-employed image consultant, to employer and serial entrepreneur.
Shauna started her entrepreneurial career as an image consultant in 2007, launching the first and only full-service image consulting firm in South Carolina. She later noticed a huge need and opportunity to fill a training gap in the image industry by combining the technical education with business building skills. She capitalized on this opportunity in 2010 by launching the Studio for Image Professionals. Initially SIP housed an introductory course and a six-week certification program, it now operates as a full-fledged online school for aspiring image consultants offering four unique certification programs and is noted as the most robust e-learning platform in the industry.
Aside from managing her own business, Shauna also works closely with the SBA-funded South Carolina Women’s Business Center (SCWBC) as the program consultant to help advance female entrepreneurs. She spends her time with the SCWBC mentoring new and growing business owners and building curriculum for entrepreneurs across the state.
Her expertise in communication, personal branding and entrepreneurship has been featured in Huffington Post, YFS Magazine, Mint.com, CareerBuilder.com and other media outlets. She has a graduate degree in Communication and Leadership Studies from Gonzaga University, an undergraduate degree in Communication Studies and Business Administration, and a Certificate in Entrepreneurship from the University of Iowa. She is a 40 under 40 award winner and named one of Charleston’s Most Influential Women in Business.
